European Legislation Identifier deployed on the Legal and Information System of the Republic of Serbia (March 2019)

In 2018, a program solution was developed that enabled the implementation of the European Legislation Identifier (ELI) (three pillars) into the Legal and Information System of the Republic of Serbia; more specifically, among all acts published in the legislation part of the official gazettes and all acts published in the register database, available online (www.pravno-informacioni-sistem.rs).

The maintenance of the register database has been entrusted to the Public Enterprise ‘Official Gazette’, the official and legally appointed publisher of official gazettes in the Republic of Serbia.

While preparing the program solution, the ELI Task Force guidelines, published on https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli-register/about.html, were abided by. Boris Petrovic, Executive Director of the Official Publications Department, explains that when creating the ELI HTTP URI template, particular attention was paid to the design of clear and precise identifiers which are close to the manner in which the legislation in Serbia is cited and which comprise components with a clear hierarchy that would be ‘resilient’ to the passing of time.

Particularly significant were the experience and the knowledge gained during the one-day ELI workshop, held at the Public Enterprise ‘Official Gazette’ and delivered by the ELI Task Force.
